Your first 90 days teaching IGCSE
MastaLearn Team 12 Aug 2026

Moving into a Cambridge IGCSE school is exciting — and busy. Here is the plan we give every teacher on our IGCSE track.
Days 1–30: learn the syllabus, not just the subject
Your subject knowledge is already strong. What is new is the syllabus map: assessment objectives, weightings and the language of Cambridge command words. Spend your first month reading past papers alongside the syllabus.
Days 31–60: teach to the criteria
Start marking everything — even homework — against simplified Cambridge criteria. Your students will write better, and your marking will become faster and more consistent.
Days 61–90: build the exam-technique habit
By now lessons should include short, low-stakes exam practice every week. Small, frequent exposure beats a stressful mock-term pile-up every time.
